Mark Strong and Helen Mirren will star in a production of Oedipus, it has been confirmed by producer Sonia Friedman Productions. Robert Icke’s adaptation of Sophocles’ tragedy, which follows a family beset by personal tragedy, has yet to reveal dates, venues, ticket info or further creative team members, but it is rumoured that the show will be presented in the West End. Icke previously adapted the tragedy into Dutch, with a Toneelgroep production running at the Edinburgh International Festival last summer. Mirren previously appeared in The Audience in the West End, while Strong worked with Icke on The Red Barn at the National. Icke’s adaptation of The Doctor, which had its world premiere at the Almeida earlier this year, will embark on a small tour before running in the West End starring Juliet Stevenson, with Sonia Friedman Productions acting as a co-producer on that show. More information about Oedipus is to be announced soon.

Back in 2013, when I opened this website, the initial idea was to delve deep into Helen Mirren’s career and provide a comprehensive source to learn more about her time with the Royal Shakespeare Company, her odd film projects in the 1970s and 1980s and the iconic “Prime Suspect” – basically everything worth to know about Helen Mirren before she became “The Queen”. Hence the title of this website, The Helen Mirren Archives has lacked the proper archive I have envisioned for so long. Until today. You can now read information and find media on each year of Helen’s career, starting back in 1963 when she joined the National Youth Theatre. There’s a lot to discover, as each page is filled with pictures, quotes, shortcuts to multimedia and bits on the real-life characters she has portrayed. I hope that much more information will be added to the sites in the future to make it the definite Helen Mirren Archives. Enjoy!

The Good Liar, out November 8, is an onion of deception. Starring Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Helen Mirren as two widows with hidden agendas who meet each other online, each scene peels back another layer of lies; another elaborate moment of theatre. Almost every detail of the film is a spoiler. Adapted from the Nicholas Searle thriller of the same name, this exhilarating film is directed by Bill Condon, and Mirren and McKellen are joined by Years and Years star Russell Tovey and Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter. On Monday 28 October, an exclusive screening of The Good Liar was held in London, hosted by Mirren, McKellen, Tovey and Condon, who were also interviewed. Pictures from the premiere have been added to the photo gallery.

Also on Thursday, Helen Mirren was the star at the Los Angeles premiere for “Catherine the Great”. The many romances of Catherine the Great have been the stuff of legend for centuries, and after playing the famed 18th century Russian empress at the center of HBO’s miniseries Catherine the Great, Dame Helen Mirren says that like dating app users today, Catherine enjoyed swiping right. “I think she liked to have someone to laugh with, she liked to have someone to have dinner with — I think she would have been probably on Tinder in this day and age, as so many other people are,” Mirren told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of the four-hour mini, held appropriately at the antiquities-minded Hammer Museum in Los Angeles’ Westwood neighborhood. “So, yes, she liked men. Definitely. And she had a sexual life, as well as a political life. But as she said, ‘My problem is I love love too much. History’s always fantastic,” Mirren told THR. “When you play these historical characters and you start really looking at what they achieved in a day, it really takes your breath away. They almost seem to be superhuman.” Over 240 pictures from the premiere have been added to the photo gallery.

Helen Mirren is featured in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly with an interview to promote the November release of “The Good Liar”: Helen Mirren is on the move. It’s late September, and the 74-year-old actress is calling from a train station business lounge in London, where she’s about to board the Eurostar to Paris. The night before, she arrived at the U.K. red carpet premiere of her miniseries Catherine the Great carried by appropriately regal footmen. Now she’s headed to France, where she’ll walk the runway (barefoot) at L’Oreal Paris’ 2019 fashion show. Just a few days prior, she was busy on the set of Fast & Furious 9, reprising her role as an elegant underworld mastermind, and she can next be seen in The Good Liar (in theaters Nov. 15), a twisty thriller about an unassuming widow (Mirren) taken in by a charming grifter (Ian McKellen). In other words, the Oscar winner is having a busy fall. For EW’s Fall Movie Preview issue, we caught up with Mirren to talk about The Good Liar, manservants, beauty, and the art of deceit — at least until her train departs.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This movie takes multiple twists and turns. What about it hooked you?
HELEN MIRREN: It was a combination of my costar Ian McKellen and of course the director, Bill Condon. It’s a very interesting script, a wonderful, twisty thriller that I thought would be fun to do. It’s nice to do a film about old people that’s not about Alzheimer’s or cancer, if you know what I mean. [Laughs]

You and Ian McKellen have starred together on Broadway, but this is your first film together, which surprised me.
It is kind of surprising. I missed the whole Lord of the Rings thing, so it’s great to be in a real chunky, proper movie together.
