On Friday, Helen Mirren was honored at the University of Salento in Lecce, Italy with the 14th Apollonio Prize. The award is designed to honor people who have been supportive of the Puglia region – such as Helen, who has been vocal in the past to save the typical olive trees – and who happens to live in the area. Pictures from the ceremony have been added to the photo gallery.

“The Leisure Seeker” has been released on Blu-Ray earlier this month in Germany and various European countries. I’d recommend it to everyone who enjoys seeing two acting greats – or a film that takes its time to tell a story. While it was running a bit long with 2 hours and its pace is off-putting at times, this is a charming, sometimes funny and otherwise deeply moving story. While it might be missing the brilliant magic of “The Straight Story” or the wit of “Little Miss Sunshine”, “The Leisure Seeker” has its heart at the right place, and a truly outstanding acting duo in Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren, whose Golden Globe nomination for the role was fully deserved. Over 1.500 screencaptures from the Blu-Ray have been added to the photo gallery. Please be aware they might contain spoilers.

Helen Mirren’s latest film “Winchester: The House that Ghosts Built” has been released on Blu-Ray, DVD and on demand in the United States on May 01. I don’t say that about a film too often, and I always try to find the positive in a project – but “Winchester” is just a stupid-ass movie. I wasn’t expecting a history lesson on the Winchester House, but at least something with a bit of a story to it. The film consists of a couple of jump scares that haven’t been effective since the 1990s and long boring tea-hour scenes with Helen and Jason Clarke talking about the supernatural. For a mystery film, there’s nothing mysterious here, and for horror fans, there’s nothing remotely spooky. Maybe it’s just not my genre. At least, let’s hope they had fun filming it. Screencaptures from the Blu-Ray have been added to the photo gallery. “Winchester” is available everywhere on demand.

Helen Mirren was honored by the Film Society of Lincoln Center with their 45th Chaplin Award in a gala that was attended by friends and colleagues, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Robert De Niro, Vin Diesel, Morgan Freeman, Jeremy Irons and Julie Taymor. In his speech to introduce Helen to the stage, Irons said “She’s always pushed boundaries and never worried about glass ceilings. She’s always hovered above them.” While we’re waiting for more information about the gala, have a look at pictures in the photo gallery.

A little bit of everything has been added to the photo gallery this morning, from recent magazine covers to theatre pictures from the 60s! But in order: Helen graces the cover of the May 2018 issue of Woman & Home in the United Kingdom, which is on newsstands now. She has also been featured in the April 2018 issue of the Australian Mindfood magazine and in the March 2018 issue of Sweden’s Sondag magazine. A couple of fantastic additional editorial pictures have been added, as well as two teriffic finds of Helen’s very first steps on the stage. In 1965, after a well received debut as Cleopatra with the National Youth Theatre, Helen transmitted to Manchester’s Century Theatre and played her first professional roles under the direction of Braham Murray – in O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” and in Michael Meyer’s “The Ortolan”. Pictures from both plays have been added to the photo gallery. Enjoy your weekend!
