The BAFTAs were handed out yesterday, and Helen Mirren was among the attendees for a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Prince William, BAFTA’s president, was in the audience with wife Kate Middleton. Mirren said: “Cinema at its best does what Her Majesty did effortlessly – bring us together and unite us through a story. Your Majesty, you were our nation’s leading star. “On behalf of BAFTA, thank you for all that you have done for our film and television industry.” “BAFTA’s relationship with Her Majesty was longstanding and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support,” she added. As we speak, Helen Mirren is in Berlin for the world-premiere of “Golda” – so, lots of updates will be following by the end of this week.
