Yesterday, Helen Mirren attended the Toronto International Film Festival for the world-premiere of Gavin Hood’s “Eye in the Sky”. The film opened to fantastic reviews, which makes on hope for a theatrical release soon. Pictures from the premiere and a photoshoot have been added to the photo gallery. Edit: Pictures from the “Trumbo” premiere have been added as well.

Here are two things Hollywood really likes: movies about charismatic individuals triumphing over political oppression, and movies about Hollywood. Luckily, Bryan Cranston’s new film, Trumbo, is about both: Cranston plays screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who was blacklisted by the industry in 1947 after refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Trumbo was perhaps the most successful of the “Hollywood Ten”; he wrote under pseudonyms throughout the ’50s, and even won Oscars for his work on The Brave One and Roman Holiday. Cranston, deploying the full range of that booming, stentorian voice, looks pretty crackerjack in the role, and he’s accompanied by a murderer’s row of talent: Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, John Goodman, and Louis C.K. all have supporting parts. Trumbo is out in November.

Both “Trumbo” and “Eye in the Sky”, Helen’s upcoming films for the end of the year, will have their world premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival. In “Trumbo”, Bryan Cranston stars as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, whosecontroversy entangled most everyone in showbiz, from red-baiting gossip columnist Hedda Hopper (Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger. In “Eye in the Sky”, Mirren stars alongside Aaron Paul, Alan Rickman and Iain Glen in a timely thriller about a terrorist-targeting drone mission that becomes a flashpoint when a civilian girl enters the kill zone. Premiere dates for both films will be announced closer to the festival’s opening.
