Helen Mirren accepts the Screen Actors Guild Award for Life Achievement in February 2022. She attends the Cannes Film Festival in May, and stars as Cara Dutton in the first season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel “1923”.

2022 saw the theatrical release of “The Duke”, which was filmed in London in early February 2020, just as the Coronavirus pandemic hit the world. Despite a premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, which Helen didn’t attend, the film’s theatrical release was rescheduled time and again. Unfortunately, director Roger Michell wouldn’t live to see the film’s final release in February 2022 to very welcoming reviews – he passed away in September 2021. Also in February, Helen Mirren received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award:

It’s you, actors, that I want to thank. For your wit and your humor – all the giggles all the laughter – I’ve laughed all my life, honestly. Your perception your emotional generosity, your great intelligence, and your incredible energy. We change clothes, we throw up, and we suffer diarrhea. Don’t you? I do. Actors – I’m sorry, you’re a magnificent tribe, stretching across culture, history, and time. This is for the actors. (Helen Mirren, Screen Actors Guild Award, February 27, 2022)

Helen Mirren spent most of the year in Montana, filming the first season of Taylor Sheridan’s new series “1923”, a prequel to his very successful “Yellowstone” series (and a prequel to the equally successull “1883”). The series, which reunited Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford some 37 years after filming “The Mosquito Coast”, follows a generation of the Dutton family in 1923, during a time of various hardships including Prohibition, drought, and the early stages of the Great Depression, which affected Montana long before the 1929 Stock Market Crash. “1923” premiered on December 18, 2022 to critical acclaim and continued its first season throughout early 2023.
